A GOOD MAN IS HARD TO FIND by Flannery O'Connor

A.
1. The plot of the story ; the story using forward plot, the story started with a family plan to take a trip to Florida and ended with a dreadful tragedy.
2. Setting which is used in this story taken place in Florida.
3. a. The character of grandmother is religious person.

4. Theme of the story is religious. Having a strong background of Christianity, O’Connor tried to convey a religious message, how “good” and “evil” is distinguished in the Christian fight.
5. The story using the third – person point of view.
6. The kind of symbolism in this story is Methapor, personification.

B.
1. The character in this story (grandmother) is represented a person who retained her Christian value system and resented changes in morality. I like the character of the grandmother, it is a good character; although, she must died cause that.
2. The story happen in or taken place in Florida. I like this setting; although, it does not develop our mind, but it is easy to understood.
3. Yes it does, the story tells about a good things, that is tells about the religious values. For example; through the character of grandmother author suggested that a person’s high religious values can lead her too feel superior and have misjudgment about good and evil.
4. Yes it is, the story are reasonable and the story’s style is communicative of figurative, it is many use figurative language to explain something important to the reader, like a oral message and etc.
5. I think the important event happen in this story is when the grandmother tries to flatter two men who kill her that he was a good man and that Jesus would help him. In this part contain religious values, when she will died she still remembering someone to remember of God.

CHRYSANTHEMUMS by John Steinbeck

1. The main character in the story is Elisa Allen who loves planting Chrysanthemums in his garden. She is brave woman he tried to struggling the women Right in America at the time. I like that.
2. The story takes place in Salinas Valley in California. I like this setting, it can develop our mind.
3. the story tells about how Allen tried to struggling the women’s Right and she wants it is same with the condition of men in this story. It is show us how we can see the women’s Right in our life.
4. The style of this story are Personification
5. The important event from this story is at the end of this story. Elisa begins give up on her goal and ideas to be free from men dominating in the society. She has believed that there is someone out there who knows her ability but in contrast, this stranger also becomes the one who make her realize that she cannot break dominance of men in her life.

A WORN PATH by Eudora Welty

1. The main character of this story is phoenix Jackson : an old black woman, she is poor, humorous, brave, disoriented, and seems to be pitiful person. I like the character in this story. As an aging black woman he want that African and Americans and must conquer these unjust obstacles in order to complete the path to racial equality.
2. The story takes setting in early morning in the country outside Natchez, December. I like this setting.
3. the story tells us about Equality of human right.
4. symbolism; the most obvious symbol in the story is phoenix Jackson’s comparison to the mythological bird, the phoenix,
5. the important event in the story is at the climax of the story that is, Elisa begin to give up to her goal and ideas to be free from man dominating in the society.

THE EGG by Sherwood Anderson

1. The main character of this story is the narrator (son). From the story he presents, we know that is a gloomy man who always sees the darker side in life. He blames on his childhood days spent on the chicken farm instead of happy, joyful days of life. I like character in this story, he tried to show how struggle in our life.
2. This story takes place from a chicken farm in the country to restaurant across the railroad station in Bid well Ohio. Both settings reflect the same internal of the characters; the son is not happy on the chicken farm; the family decides to move because they are unsuccessful, a gloomy looking place in the restaurant.
3. This short story “The egg” illustrates the harsh realities of life. The father who cannot reach succeed because of his internal ambition. His family’s life is compared to the egg which cannot stand up without breaking its shell.
4. The style if the story is Personification, many words which are liked with a human life.
5. The important event from this story is when the father who becomes momentarily insane. He is getting mad, comes to his wife and son, and then cries. It is show how the struggle in the life.

THE SWIMMER by John Cheever

1. The characters in the story; Shirley Adams is Neddy’ s former mistress. When Neddy arrive at her home, she is shocked by his presence and warns him that she will not him any money. She is with a younger man. I don’t like character in this story, because it doesn’t develop, it is monotone character.
2. The story takes place in the affluent suburbs of Westechester County, New York, and focuses on Neddy Merril, who sespite being Middle-aged, wants to retain his youth and believes that he is vibrant individual. I don’t know exactly about the setting in the story, although it just use one setting, I feel confuse after read it.
3. I just get a little point from this story, example; as human we don’t life alone without help another ones.
4. Style; Allegory, the swimmer is often considered an allegory about decline, the aging process, and the life cycle. An Allegory is symbolic representation through character or events of truths or generalization of human existence. In allegory people, places, and events often have more than one meaning-that is, they can stand more than one thing.
5. The important event from this story is when Neddy,s house fire cause themselves mistake.

Death in The Wood by Sherwood Anderson

1. The main character is Mrs. Grimes. She is a good woman. I like her, because she is a common and simple woman who lives on the outskirts of town. the narrator describes her characterizes, Mrs. Grimes as "nothing special". she is not known personally to anyone in the community, and being such a familiar figure, she is easy to ignore. " People drive right down a raod and never notice a woman like that". Then, another characters in the story are Mrs. Grimes's huband, Mr. Jake Grimes and her son.
2. The story happened on a farm near the German town. I like the setting, because it matches with the story.
3. The story tells about a good things. In the story, there is a woman who againsts for her family, although her family ignore her.
4. The story is reasonable, because nothing impossible happen in the world. The Style; Allegory, the swimmer is often considered an allegory about decline, the aging process, and the life cycle.
5. The important event in the story; when the woman died, her face burried by the sow but she looked like a beutiful young girl. I like it, because her death gives a deep impreession to the narrator about her sicerity.
